James Densmore was as much of a pioneer in typewriter manufacturing as anybody. He had his hands in the development of the Sholes and Glidden, which gave him the name and capital to eventually create his own brand, the machine you see here. This particular typewriter was the company's very first model, called the No. 1A by collectors because it is one of three different variations of the same model. This variation is easily identified by the metal name tag up front that proudly reads "DENSMORE", and by the little "rings" in the type bar linkages. There is much speculation as to what these rings added to the machine, but most think that they were a point of adjustment.
